The Disability and Rehabilitation Unit developed strategic communication tools which include: 1) fact sheets on disability and health, rehabilitation and assistive technology, and community-based rehabilitation; 2) information products on rehabilitation in health facilities and rehabilitation services. The target audiences are the primary: ministers of health or equivalent, secondary – media, civil society, legislators, health facility administrators, tertiary – WHO internal audiences and the general public. These products aim to increase public awareness and understanding of disability, and to promote mutual respect and understanding contributing to an inclusive society. Specific communication objectives include: 1) providing leaders with easy access to facts and figures about unhealthy behaviors and unsafe environments and their links to unnecessary morbidity and disability; 2) articulating the role of leaders in mobilizing support; 3) providing references and tools for leaders and advocates.
